Finishing January goals and more projects

Image
I'm happy to say I started the January goals .  It's okay that I didn't complete them all. I did start every one of them. The decorating and clothes shopping may take a while. I'd rather do it all right, then hastily completing a job. Here is a quick glance at all the goals: Declutter storage in basement. List items on Facebook community swaps, Craigslist or other online sites. ( here ) Start a photobook on Snapfish.com for 2012. ( here ) Sort through kids closets and take clothes to local consignment store. ( here ) Sort through Josh and my closet and take clothes to local consignment store or Goodwill. ( here ) Start planning for Sawyer's birthday party. Why does this always seem to creep up on me? Organize photos from 2011/2012. Put all printed photos from 2011 in scrapbook. (started) Make a list for clothes that we all need for spring/summer. (started) Start a list for decorating each room in the house. Like curtains and a table in the living room,...

A little face-lift

Image
No I'm not getting a face-lift. A mommy makeover would be nice, but not gonna happen. Shall we talk about the white elephant in the room? Do you see it? (not the white elephant) Did you notice the change? Yea, you found it! I changed my blog background and header. I'm really into geos (short for geometric patterns) right now. I was getting a little tired of the flower background and the cheesy header. Remember that header? Bleh, sooooo 2012. I thought it would be fun if you all helped picked the new header. Here are three to chose from: #1   #2 #3   Just post in the comments which one you like best. I will change the header to the winner for the month of February. Thanks for your help!

How to get kids to do chores: Keeping the house clean

Image
Do you ever find yourself yelling at your kids repeatedly? I do this daily, pick up your coats, put your clothes in the hamper, put your shoes away, clean up your dishes, brush your teeth, take a shower. I am consistently harping on them to do something. Gosh, I annoy myself. It's exhausting I tell you. They were right when they said there is no manual to raise a child. Trying to figure out the right discipline and punishment for each child is a challenge, a learning process. It's exhausting. My brain is fried and I just want a glass of wine, or two or three to chill. I laugh at that, because there isn't enough time in a night to open a bottle. Have I mentioned that I'm exhausted? Ha! I needed a manual, kind of like when I wanted a full tutorial how to decorate my Christmas tree . A step by step instruction booklet that would help me and hubby through the child rearing process. We all know there is no booklet, so I thought about it and knew I needed an attitude adj...

Tween Girl Room - Let there be light

Image
My January Goals are slowing getting completed. However, it is still January. Don't stats show that most "resolutions" fail by February? Ha, I will fool them. I didn't make resolutions, I made goals. On the January G oal list: Start a list for decorating each room.  I am starting with Sidney's room , she is 10, typical tween, loves peace signs, lime green and loud music. Her room is, oh-so-close, to being completely decorated, however we are still missing some essential items. Here is the list for completing Sidney's Tween Girl s Room: Lamp for nightstand Bookcase and decorations Picture wall. All white frames with Sidney's artwork, shadow boxes showcasing sport medals Refurbish chair for keyboard Change curtains - move higher and wider with a thicker curtain rod Let's start with the easy part: picking out a lamp. Hobby Lobby was having 50% off all their home goods including lamps and they have really cute lamps for tween girls...

Closet Organization

Image
I'm still trucking along with my January Goals and this post is exciting to me because I'm getting stuff done. Oh yea! I started with some closet organization, which is one of those jobs that IS. JUST. NOT. FUN. Getting started is the hardest part. In fact, I told Josh that I was just going to do one section. That didn't work, one clean up lead to another. Anyway, enough with the boring talk about closet organization and on to the description of what I did. I started by sorting items: Take to consignment Donate to Goodwill Hang on hangar Throw away Find new place to store Isn't it amazing how many clothes you have and don't ever wear? T-shirts are the worst, they keep multiplying. The best part? It feels so good to get rid of all the clutter that you dig through day after day. You just start getting used to it, don't you? Then, you set a goal and it is so refreshing to complete that goal. Time to tackle the cluttered shelves. Yuck! Fir...
