Here is a quick tutorial on how to make a burlap banner. You can use it for the holidays or even a birthday party, baby shower, bridal shower, wedding decoration, you get it.
Start with 2 yards burlap
Cut into 6" strips
Make a template for your pennants - can do triangle, square, rectangles, I did the below.
Cut out as many as you need for your "word" my word is BELIEVE.
Pick out paint for your letters and for a background.
After you cut the burlap you can start to paint. I decided to paint the burlap with a background white. I did this so the letters would POP more, and because it is winter, and kind of looks like snow or frost.
I used a dry brush and just painted white all over the burlap. Don't forget to leave room at the top!
I like how it has areas that are more splotchy - it adds character.
Then I printed the letters out on a heavy cardstock and cut them out to make a stencil. This was time consuming - I recommend choosing a short word.
With the stencil cut out, just lay it over your dried burlap. Make sure to line it up straight. Again, using a dry brush, dip your brush in the color of your choice for your letters and forcefully dab the paint onto the burlap over your stencil.
Voila! You've created a painted letter on burlap! Can I get a woot, woot?!
To string the pennants onto string I folded the tops down about 3/4".
I placed the burlap word upside down on the counter and used a glue gun to secure the pennants to a jute string.
In the spirit of the season...BELIEVE. You can use this as a decoration anywhere in your home and even outside!
We used this as a prop for our Christmas card. Some of you will be seeing our card in your mailboxes soon!
