How to keep your kids busy this summer: duct tape

Image
Oh my gosh the title of this post just cracks me up! No I will not be discussing how to duct tape your children but rather HOW to keep them busy WITH duct tape crafts. Our nine year old spent four hours, yes I said FOUR HOURS, working on duct tape crafts. Here is what she made. A crossbody purse. Completely stylish in the zebra print.   You can't forget the wallet that goes with it.   Complete with drivers license and fake money.   Flip flops really?  I totally laughed when she showed me these. Hilarious, and she wears them. Regularly!   She even made hair bows for her little sister. Some how the bows are missing, just like every other bow we have.  No surprise there. She Googled how to  make everything on YouTube.com. Amazing what you find on YouTube!  What have you made with duct tape?

Family: Summer potpourri

Our summer has been filled with many different adventures. Starting with Adventureland amusement and water park!   We went boating on the 4th of July.   Went to an Iowa Cubs game in the 102 degree heat. Swim suits were a must at the game to cool down.    The game went 11 innings and on Friday's there are fireworks after the game. Plus, the I-Cubs WON!   We bought our traditional dippin' dots. Plus, we had great seats!    We are trying to grow grass in this drought of a summer. It's coming in nice.   We stained the steps to the patio.   Using the Cedar naturaltone.  And we stained the Pergola. I love our pergola, but it is taking too long to stain. I will finish the rafters tonight. (look how brown our grass is, yuck! We need RAIN!) Stay tuned for some awesome duct tape projects. They will keep the kids busy this summer....

Decorating: Photo wall

This weekend I was able to attend a local Junkin' in June event hosted by JB Knacker in Gilbert, IA.  Junkin' in June is a flea market with many different store locations across central Iowa selling their vintage goods. I was looking for several different items: a bookcase for Sidney's room , console tables for specific areas in our house, a rocking chair for our front porch and barn wood. The barn wood was the only "find" I purchased and I had a perfect plan for these historical pieces of wood. I have been wanting to do this photo wall for a while, but I just needed the wood to do it.  Josh asked me why I didn't do this earlier and use new wood.  I could have done that, but there is something about the worn look of used barn planks. Plus, it turned out perfect.  Don't you love them? I already had the pictures hanging exactly where they are in the photo above. I've wanted to put the saying "I love you to the moon and back" any...
