Decorating: Preakness Event for MGMC

Our crazy weekend has come to an end.  Josh and I joked how this weekend felt like we were planning a wedding and all the stress that lead up to it, but when it was over, we wanted to do it again. (well, maybe not OVER again, but we definitely had F. U. N.!)

The Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC) Annual Benefit featuring the Preakness Stakes raised over $229,000! Wow, what a success for an evening!

Sadly, we are all touched by cancer in some form, a friend, family member, co-worker, parents, grandparents, even children suffer from this terrible disease. Many are able to fight cancer, many are survivors, many continue to fight and pray every day that a miracle will occur and cancer will leave their body. The event on Saturday was a perfect example of outreach, support and love for those continuing treatment, those we have lost to cancer and those who are in remission. Simply put, Cancer SUCKS!

I am proud to say, all the proceeds from the MGMC Annual Benefit will support the William R. Bliss Cancer Center in Ames, IA. I am so blessed to be surrounded by wonderful friends, family and volunteers that helped make the evening a success.

As mentioned in previous posts, {here and here} I was the decorations chair for the event and the decorations committee worked tireless hours before the event setting up all the decorations. Here are some pictures from the event.

We used turquoise table cloths for all of the dinner tables.
The blue color really added a wonderful POP to the room.

We hung white paper lanterns in the dining room and also in the lobby.  The lanterns make the room look like a party!  We also used some turquoise mini lanterns to accent the tables.

The trellis has been a tradition at the MGMC annual benefit event.
It is used to take photos of couples. At the Preakness ladies also wear hats,
similar to the Kentucky Derby. And who doesn't want to show off their lovely hat,
if you wore it?  Well, I didn't wear one this year, but I did wear a "head-piece."

This is a photo from two years ago taken by Jacquelyn's Photography.
We took one again this year, but haven't received it yet.

I love centerpieces, they are my favorite thing to coordinate for an event.
We used three different centerpieces in yellow, blue and brown.

The Preakness theme flower is the black-eyed susan, our committee
thought that yellow daisies would be fitting for this event.

Each yellow daisy centerpiece had a 2" brown ribbon and 1/4" turquoise ribbon tied around the vase.

If you have yellow as one of your theme colors, you can't go
wrong with LEMONS! I love this centerpiece, lemons in a
15" cylinder vase, with ribbon tied around them.
I want to do this in my kitchen!

This centerpiece was fun and unique, the idea came from
Three goblets turned upside down with a large yellow flower in them.
Bubble vases were filled with coffee grounds and
tea light candles and placed on top.

Here is the completed room! It looks so lively.

Happy bidders, bidding away on the live auctions that raised over $65,000.
I am happy to admit that our group bid on the
Minneapolis Pedal Pub package and won!

We will soon be seen doing this:

Of course, this whole event wouldn't be possible without the help of all the
beautiful, caring and hardworking committee members.
(don't we look fab in our hats?)

I was am so blessed to be a part of this group that supports a great cause.
Thank you all!

Now on to landscaping the patio, or maybe we should clean the house,
or maybe we should just relax. Yes, let's relax, oh wait,
Josh and I don't know the definition of relax.
I guess we'll just work on another project.

Oh - and my typography sign, where this all started {here}
will be done this WEDNESDAY!
I'm so excited to show you all how it turned out.

Are you planning an event? What is it for? What are you using for decorations?
